DOC NYC’s Short List for Features has a multi-year history of predicting the Oscar winner and nominees. This day of panels brings together the most influential filmmakers of the year for a day of thematic conversations exploring their creativity. Co-presented by MTV Documentary Films.

John Chester (The Biggest Little Farm), Mark Deeble (The Elephant Queen), and Tamara Kotevska (Honeyland) discuss the intricacies of capturing nature and humans. Moderated by Thom Powers (DOC NYC Artistic Director).

1:30 PM – 2:40 PM The Personal is Political
Waad al-Kataeb (For Sama), Petra Costa (The Edge of Democracy), Lauren Greenfield (The Kingmaker), Nanfu Wang (One Child Nation) frame politics in individual lives. Moderated by Thom Powers (DOC NYC Artistic Director).

3:00 PM – 4:10 PM The Art of Observation
Steven Bognar (American Factory), Feras Fayyad (The Cave), Rachel Lears (Knock Down the House), Jehane Noujaim (The Great Hack) discuss stories unfolding on camera. Moderated by Thom Powers (DOC NYC Artistic Director).
