WE GOT THE BEAT: SONIC CINEMA
The World Premiere of MAD TIGER goes behind the scenes of Peelander-Z, a Japanese art-punk band based in New York, known for their outrageous performance and headed by charismatic Peelander Yellow (also known as Kengo Hioki). What happens when Peelander Red decides to quit after a decade in the band? Get tickets to the World Premiere of Mad Tiger to find out.
The NYC Premiere of SYL JOHNSON: ANY WAY THE WIND BLOWS examines the ups and downs of a soul singer’s career. Syl Johnson retired from the music industry in the 1980s never quite having achieved the success he longed for. With the dawn of hip hop came the unexpected, widespread embrace of his 1967 song “Different Strokes” – sampled by artists as diverse as Run-DMC, Michael Jackson, the Wu-Tang Clan, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, A$AP Rocky, Kid Rock, En Vogue, Usher and Kanye West, among many others – and new opportunities for the savvy performer emerged. Expected to attend are director Rob Hatch-Miller, producers Puloma Basu and Michael Slaboch, editor Joaquin Perez, and subject Syl Johnson (Nov 15th Only)
