Deaf President Now! (Open Captioning)

DOC NYC SPRING SELECTS 2025

Date: Tuesday, May 13, 2025
Time: 7:00pm ET
Venue: IFC Center, 323 Sixth Ave, NYC
TRT: 100 minutes

Directors: Davis Guggenheim and Nyle DiMarco

When you’ve had enough, you’ve had enough. That breaking point became clear for the students of Gallaudet University, the world’s only higher education institute exclusively for deaf and HOH students, in 1988, when the school’s Board of Trustees chose a hearing president over a qualified deaf candidate. Led by a quartet of student activists as remarkable for their differences as they were for their common goal, the eight days of protests forever changed the school, the students and our society.

Oscar-winning filmmaker Davis Guggenheim and actor/advocate/filmmaker Nyle DiMarco collaborate for a passionate, propulsive film that gives a fresh reminder of the long game of the fight against injustices, then and now.

The screening will be followed by an on-stage conversation with filmmaker Davis Guggenheim.
