Ken Burns to by honored by Scholarly Society
October 11, 2013
DOC NYC alum and comprehensive documentary filmmaker Ken Burns will be honored by the Scholarly Society, along with actress Sally Field, author Philip Roth. The academy, founded in 1780, honors distinguished achievement in all branches of academia, as well as business, philanthropy, publishing and the arts.
Ken Burns co-directed THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE with Sarah Burns and David McMahon. THE CENTRAL PARK FIVE examines the 1989 case of five black and Latino teenagers who were convicted of raping a white woman in Central Park. After having spent between 6 and 13 years each in prison, a serial rapist confessed to the crime. It was the Closing Night film of DOC NYC 2012, an unforgettable night when all five subjects attended the screening.
