GO BEHIND THE SCENES WITH DOC NYC
Amongst DOC NYC’s brand-new thematic sections is Behind the Scenes, which looks at films about films. Rare home movies, cinema classics, projectionists, pre-teen film buffs and costume designers all share the DOC NYC screens to tell the story of films and filmmaking.
The NYC Premiere Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah reveals the twelve-year struggle taken by the French journalist to make his seminal 10-hour documentary about the Holocaust, Shoah. For the first time on film, the 89-year-old auteur reflects on the challenges he faced to realize his vision. Adam Benzine combines fascinating unused footage from the film with candid thoughts from Lanzmann to reveal the impact of this seminal project on his life.
Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah is among the 10 doc shorts contending for Best Documentary Short Subject nominations at the 88th Academy Awards and will air on HBO in 2016.
