TODAY’S PICKS AT DOC NYC
Today, the festival will close with the World Premiere of MAKERS: Once and For All (World Premiere) at the SVA theatre. The film recalls the story of the 1995 Beijing Women’s Conference, a watershed event in the global struggle for women’s rights. As previously announced, Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton will make an appearance to introduce the screening along with Michael Epstein and Dyllan McGee.

Due to increased security at this screening, patrons are strongly encouraged to arrive as early as possible. Doors for this event close at 6:45PM. Patrons who have not completed the security check by 6:45PM risk being denied entrance. All filmgoers will be required to pass through a metal detector and may have their bags searched. Umbrellas will not be admitted into the theater. Please be aware that there may be long waits for entry resulting from these increased security measures.
Don’t miss subjects Sonia Sanchez and Byronn Bain in the NYC Premiere of BaddDDD Sonia Sanchez at 7:15PM at the IFC Center. They will be on hand along with directors Sabrina Gordon Schmidt, Barbara Attie and Janet Goldwater to answer questions. New York Senator Kevin Parker will be at the screening and will present Sonia Sanchez with a proclamation before the film.
Meanwhile at the SVA theatre, Claude Lanzmann: Spectres of the Shoah will have its NYC Premiere.
For the first time, the 89-year-old auteur behind Shoah reflects on the challenges he faced to realize his vision. An HBO Documentary release. Director Adam Benzine, subjects Richard Brody and Stuart Liebman will attend. Screening with Francisco Bello and Timothy Sternberg‘s Dreaming Against the World. Risking execution to create work while imprisoned during China’s Cultural Revolution, Mu Xin demonstrates that great art is born of great struggle. Directors Francisco Bello and Thimothy Sternberg will attend the screening.
Doors open at 7:30PM, event start time is now 8:00PM.
Prior to the film screening, DOC NYC will present the awards for the Viewfinders, Metropolis and Shorts Competitions, along with the Audience Award recipient.
Please note we will not be able to admit patrons for this screening into the building before 7:30PM.

Winner of the Best Film, Fairy Tales (USA, 30 min., Rongfei Guo, NYU) profiles Fairy Wang, a working-class girl from rural China who thinks she’s the next Coco Chanel, and becomes an overnight sensation through Weibo, China’s largest social media site.
Special mentions have been awarded to Alive and Kicking (New York Film Academy) directed by Lara-Ann de Wet and to Last Days of Domino (School of Visual Arts) directed by Yuqi Kang.
